CWTC [Episode 39] POA in IRF, Interrupted Stay, and ESRD with Acute Renal Failure - Make Your Revenue Smarter

Welcome to Coffee with the Coder®, our conversation with Paula Digby and her team to address issues, observations and questions for Health Information Management professionals, physicians, auditors, payors and students. You are invited to listen in for ten minutes every other Monday and to submit your favorite questions or comments for Coffee with the Coder®

Episode 39 includes a discussion of an old “rule of thumb” regarding POA indicators and inpatient rehab. The question was whether “day 3” or “day 4” was the dividing line on choosing whether a condition was present on admission. Next was an interrupted stay with a return to the IRF and a question as to whether the etiologic diagnosis would change. And finally, a listener asked whether to code both ESRD and acute renal failure for the same patient.

Congratulations to today’s winner, Heather in Illinois! This “mug shot” is our Social Media Guru, Kristine Speight.
