The Oxford Learners Dictionary defines a quantum leap as “a sudden, great and important change, improvement or development” and that describes exactly what is happening to the E&M code set in 2021 it is undergoing a huge, important transformative change meant to help make E/M office visit coding and documentation both simpler and more flexible. This is the first major change to this section of CPT in more than 25 years; and while many of us have known this change was headed our way for awhile now; many coders still seem to be a bit hazy on exactly how these new codes will or should be used and just was exactly changed.
