Just Breathe: Diagnosis Coding for Respiratory Conditions

May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. Still, the peak season for people with allergies and asthma continues as the weather heats up in June. With that in mind AQ-IQ is brushing up on the most common respiratory conditions in ICD-10-CM. In addition to the most common diagnoses, we’ll look at those that may cause us to question code assignment. Instantly we think of COPD, asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, emphysema and respiratory failure. Other thoughts that come to mind are when to associate some of these conditions because very often they exist in the same patient. Come join in as we discuss code options and guidelines for their use. We’ll answer some of the toughest questions posed prior to the call so be sure to send yours in.
