CPT© Coding Update 2020: A Coding Tradition

The holiday season is officially upon us. For many of us this is our favorite time of year. From the weather to the food to seeing loved ones that we may not see during the chaos of the rest of the year, the Holiday Season is a joyful time. One of the most exciting things about this season are all the holiday traditions we take part in. Whether your celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or New Year’s we all have little traditions we like to follow. Some decorate the Christmas tree, some light the Menorah, and some participate in the Karamu feast of Kwanza. Our traditions of the winter holidays are abundant and much loved.

There is another tradition those of us working in the medical coding community can look forward to every year and that is the updates to the CPT Code set which comes our way once a year every January 1st. This year there are 394 code changes in total; this includes 248 new codes, 71 deletions, and 75 revisions. In this session we are going to go over some of the most significant changes to the code set to help you understand how to correctly implement these codes in your practice or facility.

Topics include:

  • Identify and describe significant changes in CPT coding for 2020.
  • Examine current coding practices and implement changes in CPT codes within their current responsibilities.
  • Explain emerging technology and issues for physician practices and outpatient hospitals related to coding policy.
