Diagnosis: Major Joint Replacement or Reattachment of Lower Extremity
Applicable for MSDRGs: 469, 470
MD documentation should address:
- Document the condition(s) that warranted the major joint replacement or reattachment of the lower extremity.
- Document the following procedure(s) clearly and precisely in the body of the operative report when performed:
- Resurfacing arthroplasty of total or partial hip
- Total or partial hip replacement
- Total knee replacement
- Total ankle replacement
- Foot reattachment
- Lower leg or ankle reattachment
- Thigh reattachment
- Document acute and chronic condition(s) that are being actively treating and/or are affecting patient care. Some of these conditions are considered MCCs, which would optimize payment based on MS-DRGs. Common examples of MCCs include:
- Septicemia
- Pneumonia
- Symptomatic HIV disease
